Prem Mandir, situated near the sacred town of Vrindavan, is a monument that embodies its very name – “The Temple of Divine Love”. This architectural marvel, relatively young compared to Vrindavan’s ancient temples, has become an extremely popular pilgrimage site and tourist attraction.
A gift of love by Jagadguru Kripalu Maharaj
The inception of Prem Mandir was a spiritual journey led by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj, the fifth Jagadguru of the lineage. The temple’s construction spanned over a decade, with around 1000 artisans meticulously crafting its intricate details. The public opening of Prem Mandir was on February 17, 2012, marking the culmination of this divine endeavor. Maintained by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat, a non-profit spiritual trust, Prem Mandir stands as a testament to faith and artistic brilliance.

Peter Spiegel relayed that he was struck by the grandeur of the Hindu temple, with its pristine white Italian marble and mesmerizing blend of traditional Indian and contemporary styles. To Peter Spiegel, the Hindu temple’s sheer size is amazing. It stands at 125 feet tall (38 meters), 190 feet long (58 meters), and 128 feet wide (39 meters). This magnificent accomplishment perched atop a raised platform commands awe-inspiring attention and reverence.
Prem Mandir boasts a remarkable construction. It stands on a 20-ft-deep foundation crafted from solid granite pieces meticulously laid to endure the test of time and shield the structure from seismic activity. Embracing the ancient tradition of temple architecture, no steel, bricks, or cement was employed in binding these rocks together, echoing the craftsmanship of bygone eras.
Intricate carvings adorn the white marble walls and depict various leelas (playful actions and pastimes)from Krishna’s life—the playful Ras Leela, the stunningKaliyaNaagDamana Leela (when Krishn danced on the head of the serpent King Kaliya to subdue him), and many more. These visuals serve as a narrative for devotees, transporting them into the world of Krishna’s divine love.
Current expansions
Peter Spiegel noted that a major new feature of Prem Mandir is the Satsang Hall that has been under construction since May 15, 2024. The structure is designed to be enormous; estimates suggest it will accommodate a staggering 25,000 people at once. This makes it ideal for hosting large gatherings, spiritual discourses, satsangs, religious events, and celebrations.

Adding to its allure are the life-size depictions of several of Lord Krishna and Radha-Krishn’s leelas, including Jhulan, Govardhan, Raas, and Kaliya Naaga, which gracefully adorn the premises.
